Pearl barley is a barley that has had its out hull removed and polished down.  This grain is great to use it adds a different texture to the dishes that it is added in.  Pearl barley is high in fiber and is an complete protein. It is great to put in soups, casseroles, and a hot cereal. This is a must have for your food storage needs.

Our pearl barley is a favorite for cereal and soups.  This is a barley that has been processed to remove the tough inedible outer hull and then pearled or polished. It is versatile for many recipes. May be cooked and served as a side dish similar to rice. It may also be used to add healthful fiber, chewy texture and nutty flavor to soups, stews, casseroles, salads, pilafs, and fillings.   The delicious flavor and versatility make it ideal for long-term food storage.

Shelf life estimates are based on industry studies from sources deemed reputable. Since Rainy Day Foods has no control over individual storage practices, they must disclaim any liability or warranty for particular results.

Shelf Life:  Should be stored in cool dark place- optimum condition is 60 degrees or less- for longer storage. Storing properly in our enameled cans and Super pail buckets, product may store up to 20-25 years. Bulk products need to be repackaged for long term storage.

Directions:   In medium saucepan with lid, bring 3 cups water to a boil. Add 1 cup pearl barley and return to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook 45 minutes or until barley is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Makes about 3-3/4 to 4 cups.

NOTE:  Pearl barley may be cooked ahead and stored for a short time prior to using. Place cooked barley in an airtight container and refrigerate or freeze for up to a week. For best results, bring refrigerated or frozen barley to room temperature before using.
